The SEEES Environmental Engineering Handbook

2023-03-16/in Publications

The recently re-published Environmental Engineering Handbook has been generated by the Swedish Environmental Engineering Society (SEES) and is available to member companies within the European Environmental Engineering Societies (CEEES) at a 10% discount from the 110 Euro cover price.

The original version of the Environmental Engineering Handbook was published as an aid to the education of the subject of environmental engineering. It was aimed at both high school pupils, under-graduates, graduates as well as those involved in the design and evaluation of products against the environmental conditions they may experience during their life. The new publication has been substantially updated and revised. It and provides a good source of basic and advanced information on the design, evaluation and testing of equipment exposed to a wide range of natural and man-made environmental situations.

The Environmental Engineering Handbook is intended to be used as an encyclopaedia. It give general guidance in the correct methodology for Environmental Engineering work, as well as fundamental rules and advice on how such work, correctly specified and verified, leads to a safe and reliable product. The Handbook can also used also as a basis for Environmental Engineering courses and tutorials.

The Handbook follows a similar layout to the previous edition, but contains an extended index and content lists. The overarching content is:

1 Introduction.
2 Methodology.
This section contains an overview of environmental engineering process to both the design and evaluation of products. The process has been brought up to date against International standards and sets out the issues and process necessary to ensure that commercial equipment is suitably evaluated before it enters the market place.
3 Environmental Factors.
This substantial section (420 pages) considers the various natural and man-made environmental conditions a product could experience and how these can be addressed. Addressed are the natural (climatic) conditions such as temperature, humidity and solar radiation. Also addressed are precipitation, ice, low pressure, dust and sand as well as the effects of flora and fauna. The man-made or induced conditions are also addressed which may be mechanical, (vibration, shock and acceleration) chemical or electrical.
4 Glossary.
The glossary provides a good reference for identifying many terms used, in environmental engineering, which sometimes prevents a lay reader from gaining a good understanding of the subject.
5 Application Examples.
This section provides examples provided by experienced practitioners of the environmental engineering process on real world products.

The handbook is available from Technology Books Online.
